ALTERA ALPACA

Altera Alpaca Performance Wear has provided the basis for the first significant improvement in base layer performance in two decades. It all started in 2003, when Shawn and Lori Malloy had a small alpaca farm in Maine.  They soon realized that the most valuable commodity, the alpaca fiber, was not being utilized to its full potential.  So, they bought a small fiber processing mill in 2006 and began to process alpaca and other fleece into yarn and finished goods for farms throughout the country.  In 2008, they moved their farm and mill to Springfield, Kentucky with the goal of engineering the best socks for comfort and durability.  In 2009, they perfected their alpaca socks using the latest technology and their vast knowledge of manufacturing and product engineering.

Altera Alpaca socks are tested to military standards which they meet and exceed. The legendary softness and unique thermal properties of the alpaca fiber make the rarity and time intensive gathering of raw materials from our network of small domestic alpaca farmers worth the effort.
