Care guide

Care for your socks.

A good pair of alpaca socks should last years, not seasons. A little care goes a long way — here's how.

01 · How often

Not as often as you'd think.

Alpaca fiber is naturally antimicrobial and lanolin-free, which means it resists odor without treating. In practice, most Altera pairs can be worn multiple times between washes — a real difference from cotton or merino. We wrote a full post on when to wash and when to just air them out.

02 · How to wash

When it is time to wash your socks, treat them with the same care you would give any premium performance garment.

  1. Turn socks inside out.
  2. Use cold or cool water.
  3. Wash with similar colors.
  4. Avoid bleach.
  5. Use a gentle cycle when possible.
  6. Air dry when you can, or tumble dry low if needed.
  7. Avoid high heat, which can stress fibers over time.

Good care helps preserve fit, feel, and long-term performance.
