Worn, not unboxed. thirteen years and counting.
The strongest proof isn't the one-week review. It's the customer still wearing the same pair three years in. Here's why our customers keep coming back for more.

“Seven days in the backcountry, in really steep terrain. We had some sunshine, but we had rain, we had sleet, we had snow. It rained so hard one day that there were drowned field mice in the field behind us โ and I did the entire trip in one pair of Altera's socks. I had a second pair, I just never needed them. That trip took me from being a skeptic of the Altera alpaca system to a true believer. Now when I'm in the backcountry, they're the only socks I wear.”

I bought my first pair almost 15 years ago. I still wear those same two pairs today โ they've been to the highest point in the US and the lowest. I finally bought two more, and I bet they last just as long.
As a power lineman working 16-hour days in the most extreme weather, I'd worn wool for years. The Altera Prevail totally changed the game. For the first time in years, I'm not racing to rip my socks off when the boots come off. Count me a return customer.
Elk hunt in the mountains, rugged terrain, an 80lb pack of elk meat off the mountain. My hunting partner wore wool socks and suffered severe blisters. I never had one โ even in dirty, sweaty socks. Next challenge: really cold weather.
Wore merino almost exclusively for 15 years. Tried Altera at the NWTF Convention, then a 6-day Glacier hike. Zero odor after 5 days of letting them air dry. Tried another brand recently โ that one blew out at the heel in 5 days.
Researched every blend before buying. Wore them for a month in steel-toe boots, working 12 hours a day on concrete โ inside and outside. One of the best boot socks I've worn. Heavyweight, thick, warm and dry.
As an athlete, by far the best sock I have ever worn. Oddly cool when working out and warm when sitting. The natural fiber feel fresh out of the package is like a morning cup of coffee.
Wearer's feet smell TERRIBLE โ open-the-car-windows bad. Wore the Thrive socks all day, no smell. Two days later, after they sat in the hamper with other stinky socks, I braved a sniff. Nothing. A Christmas miracle.
Skeptical at first โ ordered eight pair anyway. Kept my feet dry from 70ยฐF North Carolina hikes to bitter-cold farm visits. Ordered eight more Thrive lightweight for summer. The old Vermont, Saucony, Reebok brands don't stand a chance.
Bought my husband his first pair 8 years ago. Now we have many โ lightweight, mid-weight, heavyweight. Bought everyone in the family a few more for Christmas this year and they all loved them. Best socks, hands down.
Best sock I've owned. They're actually making my shoes last longer because there's no sweat โ absolutely dry after a 10-hour work day. Will buy more soon!
I always wear a pair of alpaca socks on long motorcycle trips. One pair, 10โ14 days. Odor-free, maintain their comfort, easily transition to long hikes at the end of the day. Nothing better.
Five years on merino, 20 years on synthetics โ alpaca beats them all. I started with 6 pairs on sale and scooped another 10 the following week. My SmartWool collection is being replaced with Altera.
Used to think it was crazy to spend $30 on a pair of socks. Now I'm a firefighter working 24-hour shifts in Conquer socks โ they're my go-to. I also wear them deer hunting in northern Michigan, and for daily use. I've got a closet of Darn Toughs I wish I could return. It isn't hype. Just facts.
Quite literally the best socks I have ever worn. I have hiked over 8,000 miles in the Explores on each trail of the Triple Crown, and won't hike in anything else. The blister resistance, warmth, and moisture management is unparalleled.
Two winters in Alaska in these heavy weight socks โ by far the warmest I have ever worn. If it's above 10ยฐF I can wear uninsulated rain boots to do my outside work. They've almost eliminated my need for insulated winter boots.
Wore the Thrive lightweights for 6 hours of shooting bows in the Nevada mountains โ AMAZING. Switched to the Conquer for day 2 with the temperature change. From sunburnt and sweaty on day 1 to chilly on day 2, my toes were so happy.
Hunting spring mountain goats on the south end of Kodiak. Climbing waist-deep snow, miles in the dark on rocky beaches, bush-whacking alders. Altera always kept us warm and dry from sea level to summit. When you focus less on your feet, you can focus more on your hunt.
Backpacking the Sierras 7 years ago, I started a personal trial program to find the best trail sock. Used to wear heavy wool with polypropylene liners. With Altera โ no need for liners, great temp and moisture control, tough to wear out. Go-to sock ever since.
Found Altera at the PA Sportsman's show. Had a manufacturing role on my feet all day in steel-toe boots โ going through several pairs of socks a month. Now retired but still log miles a day, logging, hunting, fishing. Altera always on my feet โ even under dress boots.
Bought my first 5 pairs in 2015 or 2016. Wore them Monday through Friday EVERY week, plus most weekends. They finally started wearing out โ time to replace. The quality is better than anything I've ever seen. I have sweaty feet, even in winter, and these wick moisture perfectly.
Bought my first two pairs at the NWTF convention hoping to fix cold and tired feet. Best thing I've ever worn on feet โ dry, warm, comfortable all day. Purchased 8 more pairs across lightweight, midweight, and heavy to wear every day of the year, regardless of apparel or shoes.
Regardless of what activity you are taking part in, Altera has the best sock hands down. I have been wearing them for over 10 years for everyday wear as well as more specialized activities. Get yourself a couple pair โ and be prepared to buy many more.
Thought a sock this thick would make my feet sweat even more in the Virginia heat and humidity. They kept them dry and comfortable for 18 holes.
Used to wear 3 or 4 pairs of socks to keep my toes from freezing, then went to merino wool. Nothing worked. These Altera alpacas are unbelievable. A single pair is all I need now โ they dry fast, don't hold odor, and keep your feet toasty.
